Why Consider the Bible?

Many people today view the Bible as outdated—a book written by ancient people for ancient times. Because it was completed over 1,900 years ago, some believe its teachings no longer apply to modern life. Others think the Bible has been changed over time or that it’s filled with contradictions, so they rely more on human tradition, science, or personal experience when it comes to understanding God.

Yet the Bible boldly claims to be the inspired Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness.” Hebrews 4:12 describes God’s Word as “alive and powerful,” able to reach deep into our thoughts and intentions. And Isaiah 40:8 reminds us that while human ideas come and go, “the word of our God endures forever.”

So if the Bible really is from God, shouldn’t we take time to examine it for ourselves? Could it be more than just an old book? Why should we consider the Bible today?
