Paul described the congregation as a family:
📖 “Older men as fathers, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters—with all chastity” (1 Timothy 5:1,2).
This family spirit was alive even in the harshest prisons. During World War II, at Ravensbrück, over 500 Witness women endured great suffering for their faith. They could have walked free at any moment by renouncing Jehovah God — yet they held firm. They supported each other with courage that even the SS came to respect. One eyewitness, the niece of French General Charles de Gaulle, later wrote: “I have true admiration for them… All of them showed very great courage and their attitude commanded eventually even the respect of the S.S.”
Their family-like love proved stronger than fear. They smuggled in Bible literature, held secret meetings, and kept their faith alive together. At war’s end, they emerged not broken, but unified — their love for Jehovah God and for one another intact.
Today, this same Christian family exists worldwide. In congregations across the earth, Jehovah’s Witnesses provide a safe household of faith where love, dignity, and unity flourish. For those weary of a cold, divided world, the Christian congregation offers warmth, belonging, and comfort.
