Greed is an intense and selfish desire for more — more wealth, more power, more consumption — often at the expense of others. While many recognize the dangers of overindulgence in food or drink, the craving for riches and status can be just as damaging, both personally and globally.
When greed becomes a way of life, it leads to exploitation, injustice, and even environmental harm. Entire systems can be built around the pursuit of “more,” leaving behind a trail of emotional, social, and physical devastation.
But Jehovah God sees it all — and He offers comfort to those who grieve over what greed has done to the world.
- Greed is the opposite of self-control — and Jehovah God rejects it
📖 “Do you not know that unrighteous people will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Do not be misled. Those who are sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers… greedy people… will not inherit God’s Kingdom.” —1 Corinthians 6:9, 10
Greed is not just a harmless vice — it replaces spiritual values with insatiable appetite. Jehovah God makes clear that it has no place in His new world.
📖 “Quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother who is… greedy.” —1 Corinthians 5:11
Those who love God are called to separate themselves from the influence of unchecked greed, choosing instead a life of simplicity and generosity.
- God sees those who groan over what greed has caused
📖 “Go through the city… and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who are sighing and groaning over all the detestable things being done.” —Ezekiel 9:4
Jehovah God does not overlook those who feel disturbed by corruption, materialism, and selfish ambition. He cherishes those who mourn the spiritual damage greed has caused — and He marks them for preservation. - God will destroy those ruining the earth through greed
📖 “The nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came… to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” —Revelation 11:18
Humanity’s endless desire for more has led to the pollution of land, water, and air — even triggering natural disasters and climate imbalance. But Jehovah God will not let this go on forever. He has set a time to intervene.
There is comfort in knowing that greed will not win. Those who resist its pull, and who grieve over its consequences, are seen by Jehovah. In the future He promises, generosity, care for the earth, and spiritual values will take their rightful place — and peace will reign instead of profit.
