The power of nature can humble even the strongest heart.
A trembling earth topples buildings. Winds shred towns. Floods erase everything in their path.
When we see such devastation, we ache for those who suffer β and we may quietly wonder, Why does this keep happening? Is the earth out of control?
Long ago, Jesus explained that such disasters would mark a time of global upheaval unlike any before. He said:
π βNation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.β β Matthew 24:7
A Prophecy, Not a Punishment
This verse is part of the same conversation Jesus had with his disciples on the Mount of Olives. They had just asked him:
π βWhat will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?β β Matthew 24:3
In response, Jesus listed a series of world conditions that would help his followers recognize when Godβs Kingdom had begun ruling in heaven and when the time would soon come for that rule to extend over the earth.
Earthquakes, storms, and other natural disasters were not new β but the frequency, scale, and global reach of such events would be unmatched, signaling that human rule was nearing its limit.
It is important to see this clearly:
These disasters are not proof that Jehovah God has lost control or is punishing the earth. Rather, they show the fragility of the human systems that were meant to care for it. Environmental neglect, deforestation, climate imbalance, and urban sprawl all amplify natural forces β vivid evidence that mankind cannot manage the planet apart from its Creator.
π βIt does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.β β Jeremiah 10:23
A Promise That the Earth Will Heal
The same Bible that foretold these conditions also promises the earthβs renewal.
Jehovah God intends for this planet to be our permanent home β not a place of recurring tragedy, but of lasting peace.
Through his Sonβs Kingdom, He will restore balance to creation and end the suffering caused by disaster.
π βHe is making all things new.β β Revelation 21:5
π βThey will not harm nor destroy in all my holy mountain.β β Isaiah 11:9
Imagine an earth where rivers stay pure, forests thrive, and every home is secure. No rescue sirens, no evacuations β only calm skies and grateful hearts.
Hold Tight to Hope
So when you see the aftermath of earthquakes, floods, or fires, take heart.
These events remind us of how near Godβs promise truly is.
As Jesus said:
π βAs these things start to occur, stand up straight and lift up your heads, because your deliverance is getting near.β β Luke 21:28
Our hope is not shaken by the ground beneath us.
It rests on the unshakable Kingdom that will soon bring peace to both heaven and earth.
