We live in a world of prejudice and bias – such as racism which thrives on injustice and power. But Jesus is the promised King who will put an end to all oppression. Psalm 72:12-14 foretells:
📖 “He will rescue the poor who cry for help… from oppression and violence he will redeem their life.” Jehovah’s Kingdom, under Jesus Christ’s rulership, guarantees justice for all.
When we pray:
📖 “Let your Kingdom come” (Matthew 6:10), we ask for God’s government to take full control of the earth. A kingdom is a government with a king.
Who is that King?
The Scriptures answer clearly: Jesus, the rightful heir to David’s throne.
📖 “For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us; and the rulership will rest on his shoulder. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. To the increase of his rulership and to peace, there will be no end, on the throne of David and on his kingdom, in order to establish it firmly and to sustain it through justice and righteousness, from now on and forever. The zeal of Jehovah of armies will do this.” — Isaiah 9:6,7.
This prophecy is familiar to many, often repeated at Christmastime, but its meaning runs deep:
- “Throne of David.” Jesus could only fulfill this if he was born in the natural line of David. Matthew 1 and Luke 3 both record his genealogy, and Matthew 21:9 shows that no one disputed his royal lineage.
- “A Mighty God.” How? Philippians 2:6-9 explains that Jesus first existed as a spirit creature made in God’s image, then humbled himself to live as a man. After his resurrection, he was exalted to an even higher position in heaven — becoming a mighty god under the ultimate authority who is our Heavenly Father, Creator and Almighty One – Jehovah God (Gen 17:1; 1 Cor 15:28).
- “Prince of Peace.” The ultimate fulfillment is described in Revelation 19:11-16, where Jesus is shown as the conquering King who removes all wickedness and brings lasting peace to the earth.
Jesus also identified himself with Isaiah 61, declaring in Luke 4:17-21 that he was anointed…
📖 “to declare good news to the poor… to proclaim liberty to the captives… to send the oppressed ones away free.” These words are especially relevant for those suffering racial injustice, including unfair imprisonment or systemic oppression.
Together, these prophecies assure us that Christ’s rulership is not symbolic. He is a real King, appointed by Jehovah God, who will bring about a world without racism, injustice, or violence. Under his Kingdom rule: dignity, fairness, and peace will flourish for all people, regardless of race or background.
